Bound for Roehampton this weekend as a court attendant/ball girl for the Wimbledon Qualifying Tournament, as a warm-up to a week working at the main event. The National Tennis Centre is a leafy hidden gem with 14 green and serene grass courts (at the moment) that will be the focus of attention the week before the main championship at hallowed SW19. Especially now Maria Sharapova will be putting in an appearance and there’s daily TV coverage too.
It’s ticketed for the first time this year – with 1,000 tickets for sale, per day, at just £5 each. It’s a chance to see up-and-coming stars and a few surprise returnees… The qualifying competitions, staged at the Bank of England Sports Centre, just three miles down the road from the championships site, kick off on Monday. Game, set and match.
