New kid on the beauty block

The Buxom beauty range, sister brand to bareMinerals, is new and exclusive to Debenhams. I paid a visit to one of their shiny new stands where the range’s emphasis is on eyes and lips. Andrew, the bareMinerals’ regional manager, talked me through the lines. He explained it has a younger appeal, featuring vibrant colours and packaging. I was particularly taken by the luscious lip glosses, which are lip plumping and shimmery, complete with tingling sensation when first applied. Strange at first, but it wears off after a while.

The lovely PR folk at bareMinerals and Buxom sent us a range of samples which we’ve been trying out. The beauty haul includes: Full-On Lip Polish lip gloss, priced £15-£18, in shade Katie with gorgeous shimmer, Samantha, and Celeste; Full-On Lip Cream lip gloss in Bellini shade, £15, with refreshing tingle and subtle peachy shade; Bold Gel lipstick, £15, in Poison Nectar shade, is a favourite. So creamy and moisturising, this super-soft lipstick comes in a lightweight gel formula, and this particular low-key shade, in satin finish, is perfect for daytime. The case features a fab magnetic snap closure too, so won’t work loose in handbags.

The gel lipsticks come in 30 shades, so you’ll be spoilt for choice; Lash Mascara Blackest Black, £16, is a good reliable clump-resistant daywear mascara, and the waterproof version is long lasting; Eyeshadow palettes (we’re sampling Dolly’s Wild Side, £36), feature six quality shades (we love Mink Magnet), with excellent pigmentation and staying power. A combo of shimmering pearl and metallic bronze hues, these feature primer-infused technology to give greater staying power. The palette container is also customisable with single refills for £8.
