Souper-duper

Our first visit to Violets Café on Newcastle’s Quayside was a culinary treat. This was an elevated Friday lunch treat, and so it should be as owner Abbie Atkinson is the wife of chef Kenny Atkinson and co-owner of the mighty Michelin-starred House of Tides restaurant, also on the city’s Quayside. This cute bijoux café offers a window on the Quayside world, occupying a prime people-watching spot. The scrumptious broccoli and feta soup, sprinkled with pine nuts, accompanied by two slices of sourdough, was both tasty and filling. As was the delicious home-made cheese scone. All was served up on pretty china. All the little touches were there – sturdy wooden tables, attractive décor and bunches of flowers presented in milk jugs. We’ll certainly be making a return visit to sample the delicious looking selection of cakes and sweet treats.
